Queerbash V 22nd Feb 2008
OUT IN UL-The University of Limerick’s Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Society presents ‘QUEERBASH V’
Out In UL, the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Society in the University of Limerick, will be hosting the 5th Annual Queerbash event on Friday 22nd February 2008 in Baker’s Place & Underground, Limerick. ‘Queerbash’ is a fundraising and social event for the LGBT community in Limerick and the Mid-West.
Queerbash 5 is geared up to be another success, as it has been for the previous 4 years. It will build on these achievements by continuing to use the event as a means for Outreach within the Lesbian, Gay & Bi-Sexual Community in the Mid-West, but also to those who are straight who just want to come along for a fantastic evening of fun in a safe and controlled environment. There will be 2 DJ’s downstairs battling it out, whilst a Charity Auction will take place, with all proceeds going to Rainbow Support Services-an LGBT resource Centre in Limerick City.
Out In UL, provides support for the LGB students on the campus of UL, as well as an active awareness program of LGB issues, chief among which lies the concept of Violence towards the Gay community. The title of the event, “Queerbash”, represents a recognition of this violence, which is still ongoing within our society-Some 41% of people in a 2006 survey on Hate Crimes claimed to be a victim. Of that group, nearly 50% suffered a Physical Attack. (Source: Johnny, Hate Crimes Report 2006, Dublin: 2006). Queerbash is about raising the profile of such attacks and reneging the victim status which becomes attached to a person who has been attacked because of their sexual orientation.
The Society is also involved with other LGBT’s across the country, many of whom will be in attendance at this event which is one of the longest run & premier student-run LGBT events in the country.
The Event will be run this year in conjunction with “Baby Blue Training” Conference, which is another LGBT event being hosted by Out In UL, with support from NUI Maynooth and Kildare LGBT this year. This Conference will feature workshops, discussions on various LGBT issues arising in Ireland including city vs country life, Civil Marriage Rights and Health Issues.
Tickets cost 5EUR before 11pm and 8EUR after. For further information contact outinul@yahoo.ie or see http://heaven.skynet.ie

operation in order to marry an American G.I. and get over the Berlin Wall to freedom.

BELLTABLE AND LIMERICK PRIDE
Goldfish Memory
Ireland/UK 2003/ 86minutes
Dir: Liz Gill
Flora Montgomery, Keith McErlean, Fiona O’ Shaughnessy, Justine Mitchell, Jean Butler, Sean Campion, Peter Gaynor
Goldfish Memory is a light-hearted look at the dangers and delights of dating in contemporary Dublin. When Clara catches her boyfriend Tom getting off with another girl, it sets off a chain reaction of romances and heartbreak with each character trying to solve the pressing question of what is the perfect relationship! Some favour marriage, others a week-at-a-time arrangement. The only thing they all agree on is that love is one thing they cannot live without. Falling in love, out of love and making the same mistakes over and over again - we all say we learn from heartbreak but how many of us change?
Exploring the comical nature of love, straight, gay and in-between, Goldfish Memory brings life to the saying what goes ‘round comes ‘round…and ‘round…
Tickets €6 on the night
Belltable Theatre 69 O’Connell Street, Limerick. Tel 061 319 866
Shortbus
30th August

Thursday 29th August 8pm
BELLTABLE AND LIMERICK PRIDE
Shortbus
USA 2006/ 102 minutes
Dir: John Cameron Mitchell
Justin Bond, Lindsay Beamish, PJ Deboy, Raphael Barker, Jay Brannan, Peter Stickles, Sook-Yin Lee, Paul Dawson
Shortbus follows various New York City characters as they
navigate the comic/tragic intersections between sex and love in and around a modern-day polysexual underground salon called Shortbus.
Sofia is a sex therapist who has never had an orgasm. She’s been faking for years with her husband Rob. She meets Severin, a female dominatrix who tries to help her. Sofia’s clients include James and Jamie, who are starting to open up their relationship sexually. James suggests a three-way relationship with Ceth ;
Jamie is reluctant. James seems to have a hidden agenda. His plans are witnessed by a stalker named Caleb. All the characters converge on Shortbus, a mad nexus of art, music, politics and sex.
The film suggests new strategies for reconciling the unique pressures of post-9/11, Bush-exhausted New York City life with questions of the mind, pleasures of the flesh and
imperatives of the heart.
Tickets €6 on the night
Belltable Theatre 69 O’Connell Street, Limerick.

BELLTABLE AND LIMERICK PRIDE
‘Lights On Up Front, Dark Down The Back’
Padraig Robinson
Official Opening Wednesday 5th September 7pm
Belltable Arts Centre Visual Arts Gallery
Limerick Pride are delighted to be associated with Artist Padraig Robinson, whose first solo exhibition is being shown at the Belltable Arts Centre Limerick and is an associated event of the Pride Festival here in Limerick running till the middle of October.
Padraig is a promising and emerging visual artist whose
practice is concerned with subverting identity and hierarchies within and around various cultural contexts such as contemporary queer/non ‘normative’ culture. Using the odd, extreme and non-digestible the work Padraig is exploring aims to create a disruptive situation to mechanized/normalised experience, opening a reflective dialogue. Dislocating representation as such is a way to test and debate the notion of parodic cultural identity, exploring moral concepts such as subject/object,
nature/nurture, virtual/real, style/reality and good taste/bad taste.
The work is kindly supported by Rainbow Support Services Limerick and Limerick Pride Festival.
Limerick Gay Pride 2007 is sponsored and
supported by Rainbow Support Services and the Belltable.
Any donations made on Pride will go to Rainbow Support Services to enable them to continue with Rainbows work of supporting the Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual community and their family and friends in the Mid-West region.
It is hoped that Limerick Gay Pride 2008 will gain its own sponsorship so that it came become its own association, with donations going to the following Limerick Gay Prides in future years to come.
