MISSING STUDENT - Michael Hughes in Galway
Please see the appeal at the end of this newsletter and help out tomorrow if you can
NEXT MEETING
This will be held in the meditation room, @ 7 next Monday. We’ll be playing the recording that Declan from baby blue made about coming out. It’s really interesting. Come along and find out what’s going on.
PICTURES FOR BEBO PAGE
OUT in UL would like anyone who has photos of QB5 and doesn’t mind donating them to us, to forward them to outinul@yahoo.ie. We’d especially like some photos of the auction, the euro guy and the raffle. We’ve already put 17 up on the Bebo page, and will be adding more later today.
QUEERBASH 5
This was a major success. Everyone was thrilled by the turn out and the event itself. We’d sincerely and deeply like to thank everyone that took part in organising and ensuring that the event went as close to plan as possible:
The decorating committee - ye deserve a standing ovation for the way ye did up the place.
The Ents Crew - for ensuring that the event went well and no one got out of control. As always, we are indebted to you.
The Bouncer - Seamus, we love you, we do…thanks hon.
The staff of Baker Place and Underground.
The Wicked Chicken next door for not complaining
The DJ’s - Cait, Ms. Skull and DJ Jeff…you lot are fantastic, the music rocked and the people loved ye.
The acoustic talents of Benoit - as per last year, people really enjoyed your set, thank you once again for playing.
Donal Skehan (Eurovision contestant) - your stage act was fantastic; we’ve still got people talking about it.
Kitty - thank you for putting it all together. You will make a fine promoter one day.
David, Niall, Alan, Loraine and Mike - thank you so much for looking after the door for us.
Kamil - your fund raising efforts were amazing, people loved the water gun shots.
Sheila Fits-Patrick and Madonna Lucia (winners of the Alternative Miss Limerick) - ladies what can I say, without you the auction and the raffle would not have been as much fun. I hope ye both enjoyed the night, and that the water from the flowers didn’t ruin your dresses. Limerick loves ye (as do several other collages and uni’s around Ireland now).
John H, John O’S and Will - lads, it was a deep pleasure to see you there; it was like old times. Let’s do it again soon.
Steve - wish you were here *grins*
And the last and the most important thank you -
To our interim president Joe, who when Niall having laid the ground work (love you babe) went on co - op found himself in the position of interim president. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for pulling together the vision that was laid down last semester. Joe spent most of the night running around the place ensuring that everything ran as close to schedule as possible and barking orders, he spent sat and sun (all day) at baby blue. It’s a wonder he’d any energy left come Monday.
We owe you JOE, our deepest and warmest thanks.
Now, relax!
BABY BLUE
A great success, we enjoyed having them here, they loved being here, and the performance on Saturday night was spectacular. We can’t wait to get up there and party with you again.
MARRIAGE EQUALITY DEBATE
Coming up on March 6th, as a showcase debate from Deb U.
stay tuned for further info.
TRIP TO DUBLIN
Maynooth invited us up, will and John wants to show us the sights so we think it would be a great idea. Maynooth rag week is on the 31st of march (please correct me if i’m wrong) and perhaps we could stay in a hostel and go on the bus up/down. Let us know if you’re interested and we’ll plan it - outinul@yahoo.ie
SUGGESTION OF SOCIETY BUDDY SYSTEM
At Monday’s meeting, there was a suggestion of a buddy system being put in operation, where two members of the committee would meet anyone that wanted to join but was nervous about coming along.
We know that we may appear to be a clique but don’t be put off. We’d love to have you come and join in the fun and people join in and drop out all the time. We’d like your feedback on whether you think a buddy system would work towards helping new people come along to meetings or events and how it should work.
We don’t want anyone feeling that they can’t set foot in the meetings, or at any of our events, we endeavour to include everyone. If there is something ye want, speak up.
IBTS (Irish Blood Transfusion Service)
The ULSU Welfare Group are reviewing the UL IBTS policy and have suggested including it as a working document within the equality policy for reasons we can explain and discuss at our meeting on Monday. If you have a comment or something to say on the matter please do e-mail outinul@yahoo.ie
ALTERNATIVE MISS IRELAND
Being held in Dublin on Sunday the 16th of March, in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin, starring Panti and featuring the winner of the Alternative Miss Limerick, Sheila Fits-Patrick, as she attempts (by any means necessary) to wrest (possibly while kneeing someone in the stomach) the crown from the other contestants (they don’t hold a candle to her).
If you want to go up in support of the stunning Miss Sheila Fits, the tickets are 34.50 standing and 41.50 seated. Don’t forget, Monday is a bank holiday, so you can sleep off your hangover.
OUT in UL would also like to take this opportunity to wish Sheila the best of luck, go break a leg honey.
GENDER READING GROUP
Tues we are meeting in the POD (ground floor of the Foundation building) from 12-1
MARRAIGEQUALITY
There was a talk on marriage equality by one of the members of marraigequality, on Sat 23rd of Feb in Leamy House. The turn out to this was fantastic, as was the talk by Ailbhe Smyth. Upshot is there will be a smaller group setting up in Limerick with a mandate to have the limerick queer voice heard.
It was also recommended that you go along to your TD and raise this as an issue because some claim that it has never been mentioned to them on the doorsteps. Just let him/her know that you exist and that you want equality, not a dog licence.
BAR 3
It is apparently closed until further notice. Dozens of rumours abound but no clear reason as of yet. Stay tuned.
NEW PRO
Congrats to Lorraine for being elected on Monday last as society PRO. Well done girl, we’re looking forward to working with you. This woman is brimming full of ideas and her partner in crime mike is just as overflowing. Stay tuned to see what they come up with.
Right so, have I left anything out????
E-mail me and let me know - outinul@yahoo.ie

MISSING STUDENT
Important message in relation to a missing student:
Dear Student,
I am sending you this email because a UL student, Michael Hughes, is missing.
Many of his friends have already gone to Galway to look for him.
However, they need help.
I am appealing to you to come with us and help in the Garda search.
A bus will leave the Stables archway tomorrow morning (Thursday 28th February) at 9am. This bus will reach Galway for 11 o’clock.
The search will involve walking the different areas of Galway that need to be checked: scrublands, parks, estates, gardens etc.
The bus will then return to Limerick tomorrow evening.
All support is greatly appreciated.
If you can help – please contact me on 0860435301.
Thank you,
Judith Lynch
Deputy President/Welfare Officer
