Newsletter 2

Hey Guys and Gals,

QUEERBASH:
Ok following the meeting the other night, which was pretty constructive, we have decided on the 13th of April for the running of Queerbash. Still working on our venues but hope to have it sorted out before Mondays meeting so we can begin our advertising campaign soon enough.

UCC BALL:
We are going to go to the UCC Ball, so I really need to get some numbers for this so i can begin to book the bus and stuff. Be advised it is a formal event, but there are places in the city where a tucks can be rented for relatively little money!

BOWLING:
Anybody want to go Bowling on Thursday night? I have a few interested names in the event. Just figured we havent got together outside of our meetings since before xmas, so why not. Let me know anyway and have a think about it and let me know on Mondays meeting.

BABYBLUE TRAINING:
Still waiting to hear back from NUIM & QUB on an actual date for this event. Once I know I'll let you know!

CIVIL PARTNERSHIP BILL:
Ok guys, the Labour Party will be introducing a members Bill into the Dail next tuesday. Obviously this is a first step in a long process but for those of you who wish to contact your local TDS, heres a quick list for you, courtsey of Labour Youth LGBT.

" A copy of Labour's Civil Union Bill can be downloaded at:
http://www.labour.ie/campaigns/listing/20061214124921.html

We would ask you, if you support the Bill, to contact your local Fianna Fail and PD TDs (who are likely to vote against the Bill) in advance of the debate, and ask them to indicate how they intend to vote on this issue. TDs are particularly sensitive to messages from their constituents.

1. Each TD has an email which follows the pattern  name.surname@oireachtas.ie , emails and phone numbers of each TD are in the phone book. Please call your local constituency TD. You can phone the Dáil at 01-6183000 and ask to be put through to your local TD to ask them how they intend to vote on Tuesday and Wednesday on the Civil Union Bill.
2. We would ask you to pay particular attention to the 8 PD TD’s particularly Michael McDowell, the Tanaiste, and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Leader of the PD’s.  Email  minister@justice.ie or register your support for the Civil Union Bill by ringing the Minister’s office at 01-6028202.

For your convenience you can cut & paste the following message (please amend as you see fit)  :

“ Dear Deputy X,

I would like to ask you to support the forthcoming Civil Unions Bill to be debated in the Dail on Tue/Wed 20th/21st  Feb.
Both the Taoiseach and the Tanaiste have stated their support for protections for Lesbian & Gay couples.
This debate will offer you an opportunity to demonstrate your support for equality.

Yours, …              "

Gay Community Network Magazine:

For those of you who are interested in knowing whats going on aronund the country, GCN is a pretty good source to have to hand. It gives scene listings for all of the regions as well as some pretty random interviews. There are free copies at the reception in the SU, or pick one up at the meetings.

Im sure I will have forgotten something in the mean time, while I have been writing this. (Hopefully I won't get pulled up on my grammar again!!!!-:-d). Welcome Back!

Hey Guys and Gals!!!

Welcome Back to the second semester! I trust yas all got on well in your exams and ye all had a fantastic xmas etc.  Ok so the first meeting of the semester is going to be on this Monday night at 7pm in the Union in room 3.  We have quiet alot to get through  on Monday, but I promise it wont be too heavy-Promise! -I'll even bring the ball! :-d.

Items of Discussion!

1. UCC Gay Ball Numbers:
The UCC Gay Ball will be held on the 7th March 2007 in Cork city. The Guys below have been working very hard to pull this off, so they are looking for our support for there event. They have always been fantastic to support Queerbash and other events, including meeting up with us when we are out in Cork, so we need to get some numbers in for those of yas who would like to go to the Ball.
keep it in Mind but bare in mind we do need to get back to them ASAP.

2. Queerbash:
Ok guys, this is OUR event, our biggie of the semester. Yes it does take a bit of time to organise, but it is incredibly successful and we have the advantage that the work of previous committees have ensured that this event has acquired a name for itself across the Midwest as one of the main events this side of the summer-People are still talking about last years event and have started asking me what the sca is with this years event.  We have a couple of venues in mind for the event but we would like to get all your input before we make any final decisions but we do have to act fairly quickly in order to get maximum advertising  and get our target group notified about the wkd. Again keep it in mind and let the ideas pour out on monday night!

3. Seachtain na nGaeladh 2007.
A Brief Note from Brendán in an Cummann nGaeladh( ie the Irish Society!)

Hey all!
Firstly, Congrats on a great night with Santas Big Gay Snowballs! I really had a ball!
I am writing to you about Seachtain na Gaeilge 2007 which will be on march 3rd to 17th 2007. During this time we are trying to involve as many people as possible with the festivities. We would like to include the LGBT community on campus in this week, and are hoping you might have a suggestion as to what events might suit? We were thinking of getting Cathal Ó Searcaigh in for a talk, or possibly a big celtic night in Bar3? Any advice would be so welcome.

4. Dolans

5. Eden
For those of you who don't know, Eden have launched a Limerick night in Bar 3 since January. On around the second Tuesday of the month, the eden website usually keeps it up to date about the next date www.edenexperience.com-and for those of yas browsin it, ya will prob find me in the pics from the launch night, just dont point out the fact that you know they are there coz they are truly awful pics!

6. Rainbow Support Services & Queer na nÓg:
Rainbow Support Services, is launching a youth group for 15-25year olds. It will be meeting once a month and it is going to be beginning on this Tuesday. If you would like to attend, please contact Vanessa on 061-310101 or alternatively, let me know.

Kindest Regards,
John,
